Delhi Mandates Gender Segregation in Night Shelters
Delhi is very cold, and many homeless people, including women, are sleeping outside.
The government found that women were sleeping with men in the same tents, which is not safe.
So, they ordered that all temporary night shelters must have separate areas for women.
They are also adding more shelters and checking that everyone has a warm place to sleep.
This is to make sure women are safe and have their own space.
Delhi mandates gender segregation in night shelters after privacy lapses were discovered.
Over 46,000 homeless people, including women, are at risk due to extreme cold.
DUSIB ordered immediate segregation of temporary shelters by gender.
New shelters and checks on bed availability, warm blankets, and hygiene are being implemented.
Compliance reports are due immediately to ensure the safety and dignity of female residents.
