Hong Kong Activists Convicted, Face Up to 10 Years

Hong Kong Activists Convicted, Face Up to 10 Years

Two Hong Kong activists were found guilty in court.

Their case involved candlelight events remembering China’s 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.

Lee Cheuk-yan and Chow Hang-tung helped organise these events for many years.

The events were connected to a group called the Hong Kong Alliance.

The group has since been disbanded.

Prosecutors accused the activists of encouraging people to challenge state power.

The activists said they only wanted democratic reform, not to overthrow the government.

They could each face up to 10 years in prison under Hong Kong’s national security law.
