ECI Celebrates 16th National Voters' Day
National Voters' Day is celebrated every year on January 25 to remind people how important it is to vote.
This year, it's special because there's been some controversy about a special drive to get more people to vote in certain states.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) wants to make sure everyone knows how to vote and why it's important.
They give out special ID cards to new voters who are 18 years old.
The ECI also has a big database of voters, with lots of young people and a good balance of men and women.
They have special programs to teach people about voting and make sure everyone can participate.
This year, the Voter’s Pledge was taken on January 23, a day before the actual date, to ensure all government offices could participate.
Officials pledged to uphold democratic values and ensure fair elections.
The theme for this year is 'My India, My Vote' with the tagline 'Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy'.
President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the event and distribute Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly-registered young voters.
The event will also include the release of important publications and an exhibition showcasing various electoral processes and voter-centric initiatives.
National Voters' Day is celebrated annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The 16th National Voters' Day in 2026 was observed on January 23 due to a public holiday on January 25.
A Voter’s Pledge programme was organized across Sri Sathya Sai district, with officials pledging to uphold democratic values and ensure fair elections.
The ECI aims to promote voter awareness, encourage new voter enrolment, and present Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to new voters.
The electoral database stands at 99.1 crore, with 21.7 crore young electors in the 18-29 age group and an improved Electoral Gender Ratio of 954 in 2025.
