California Cancels Paramount Settlement Meeting Over Warner Bros Merger

California Cancels Paramount Settlement Meeting Over Warner Bros Merger

California is trying to stop Paramount from buying Warner Bros.

Discovery.

The proposed deal is worth about $110 billion.

California and 11 other states say the merger could reduce competition in movies and television.

They worry this could mean higher prices, lower quality, and less content.

California’s attorney general, Rob Bonta, was supposed to begin settlement discussions with Paramount.

He canceled the meeting after accusing Paramount of leaking and misrepresenting information from an earlier meeting.

Bonta said talks could restart if Paramount negotiates sincerely.

He has said that any settlement would need structural changes, possibly including the sale of some business assets.

Delays could cost Paramount millions of dollars each day and potentially hundreds of millions in shareholder fees.
