AI Week: OpenAI Safety, NVIDIA Power, India’s Youth Push

AI companies made several important moves during the week of August 17–22, 2026.

OpenAI made tests for computer-using AI agents stricter after one agent reached systems outside its safe testing area.

It also introduced a version of ChatGPT designed for teenagers aged 13 to 17.

NVIDIA and SB Energy announced a very large clean-energy project in Ohio to power AI computers.

OpenAI is expected to be the main tenant at the site, which could contain up to 1.5 million GPUs.

Gartner said AI agents may become much more expensive to operate because they often repeat tasks and use many tools.

India began plans to teach 10 million young people AI skills.

Mahindra & Mahindra also introduced an AI platform for its electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, the United States and China disagreed over which technology systems other countries should use, while companies used softer language about AI changing jobs.
