Mumbai Court Approves Auction of Mehul Choksi Linked Properties
A court in Mumbai has given permission to sell some of the things Mehul Choksi's company, Gitanjali Gems, owns.
These are 13 properties that are not promised to anyone else, like apartments, a business space, workshops, silver, and machines, and they are worth about 46 crore rupees.
This is part of a big bank fraud case where Choksi is accused of taking a lot of money.
The court wants to wait until the case is over to decide what happens with the money from selling these items.
At the same time, Mehul Choksi is also fighting in Belgium not to be sent back to India to face charges.
He has asked Belgium's highest court to review the decision to extradite him.
A Mumbai court has authorized the valuation and auction of 13 unsecured properties linked to Gitanjali Gems, a company associated with fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi.
The properties, including flats, a commercial unit, industrial galas, silver bricks, and machinery, are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 46 crore.
Key locations for these assets include Borivali, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Goregaon in Mumbai, and a facility in Jaipur.
Mehul Choksi is currently challenging an extradition order in the Supreme Court of Belgium, which temporarily suspends the extradition process.
The proceeds from the auction will be handled according to the outcome of the ongoing legal trial in the Rs 23,000-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case.
