PhonePe to Launch UPI for Feature Phones, Targeting Underserved Users
PhonePe is creating a way for people with basic phones to make online payments using UPI.
They bought the technology from a company called Gupshup, which developed GSPay, which is built on NPCI's UPI 123Pay platform.
This new service will allow users to send money to others, pay with QR codes even without internet, and receive money.
They aim to include people who use older phones in the digital payment system, as there are many such users in India.
It may take a few months to launch.
PhonePe plans to launch a UPI solution for feature phones.
The service will be built on GSPay technology acquired from Gupshup.
GSPay is built on NPCI's UPI 123Pay technology.
The app will support P2P transfers and offline QR payments.
The initiative targets India's large feature phone user base.
