India, China Review LAC Situation at 36th WMCC Border Talks
India and China are two big countries that share a very long border.
Part of that border is called the Line of Actual Control, or LAC.
Sometimes the two countries disagree about this border.
To talk about it, officials from both countries met in New Delhi on August 6.
Their meeting is called the WMCC, and it was the 36th time the group has met.
They talked about how to manage the border and how to work together across it.
Both sides said they will keep talking through meetings and special channels to avoid confusion or mistakes.
They agree that keeping the border calm is very important for the two countries to get along.
India also asked to talk soon about the rivers that flow across the border.
India and China held the 36th Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, August 6, reviewing the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Both sides agreed to continue using existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC and local commander-level meetings, to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the two sides engaged in frank discussions and underlined that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.
As a follow-up to the outcomes of the 24th Special Representatives' talks, the two sides held detailed exchanges on boundary delimitation, border management, mechanism-building and trans-border cooperation.
India reiterated the need for early convening of the next Expert Level Mechanism meeting on trans-border rivers and emphasised the importance of sharing technical details on China's upstream projects.
