Zerodha CEO: Third Stock Exchange Likely in 5-10 Years
The Indian stock market is mostly run by two big exchanges.
The CEO of Zerodha, a trading platform, thinks there's room for a third one.
He believes that current exchanges don't pay enough attention to things like bonds and mutual funds, creating a gap.
He predicts a new exchange could succeed in the next 5-10 years by focusing on these areas.
He mentioned this while talking about the Metropolitan Stock Exchange, in which his company has a stake.
Also, Zerodha itself won't be selling stock to the public because the goals of investors don't always match what's best for customers, so they'll stay private.
Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath anticipates a third viable stock exchange in India within 5-10 years.
He believes existing exchanges (NSE and BSE) aren't fully focused on debt instruments and mutual funds.
Kamath sees an opportunity for a new exchange to build liquidity in underserved segments.
His comments were made during a discussion about the Metropolitan Stock Exchange (MSE).
Kamath confirmed Zerodha has no plans for an IPO, citing investor-customer conflict.
