Hemp-Based Eco-Stay in Uttarakhand's Himalayas
In a small village in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand, there's a special house made mostly from hemp, a plant in the cannabis family.
This house, called Himalayan Hemp Eco Stays, is very eco-friendly.
It uses solar power for energy and collects rainwater.
The walls and roof are made from a special material called hempcrete, which is strong and can handle earthquakes, floods, and fires.
The house also helps clean the air.
The architects who built it, Namrata and Gaurav, wanted to show how hemp can be used to make buildings that are good for the environment.
They even have a special machine that processes hemp without using much water.
The house can fit four people and costs Rs 2,400 per person per day to stay in.
Himalayan Hemp Eco Stays is a hempcrete homestay in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal district, built by architects Namrata Kandwal and Gaurav Dixit.
The homestay uses hempcrete, a mixture of hemp plant shives, lime, fly ash, and mineral additives, for its floors, walls, and roof.
It operates on a zero-energy model with solar panels and rainwater harvesting, and includes a wastewater facility for gardening.
Hempcrete is lightweight, earthquake-resistant, moisture-regulating, and fire-resistant, making it ideal for Uttarakhand's climate.
The homestay has hosted about 10 tourists since its inauguration and can accommodate up to four residents at a time.
