Delhi Capitals May Release 5 Players Before IPL 2026 Auctions
The Delhi Capitals cricket team had a mixed season, starting strong but ultimately missing the chance to play in the championship games.
Now, they are thinking about changing some players on their team before the next big auction.
They might let go of players like Mohit Sharma, Dushmatha Chameera, Jake Fraser-McGurk, T Natarajan, and Mitchell Starc.
This is because some players didn't perform as well as expected, some are older, and others cost a lot of money.
By releasing them, the team hopes to save money and find new, exciting players to make their team stronger for next year's tournament.
Delhi Capitals narrowly missed the IPL 2025 playoffs by one point.
The team is considering releasing up to five players to rebuild for the IPL 2026 season.
Players identified for potential release include Mohit Sharma, Dushmatha Chameera, Jake Fraser-McGurk, T Natarajan, and Mitchell Starc.
Reasons for potential release cited include underperformance, high cost, injury concerns, and limited game time.
Releasing these players would free up significant funds and roster spots for acquiring new talent.

Arguments for Retaining Players
Despite high costs, players like Mitchell Starc have had strong playoff performances in the past, while others like Jake Fraser-McGurk could be acquired at a cheaper price if released and then re-signed.
Squad Rejuvenation
Arguments for Releasing Players
Releasing players frees up significant funds and slots to bring in new talent to address team weaknesses, especially after a disappointing season.
Arguments for Retaining Players
Retaining certain players might offer squad depth or allow for another opportunity if they are still considered valuable despite past performances.
Addressing Player Status and Future
Arguments for Releasing Players
T Natarajan's injury history and limited game time suggest a mutual benefit in moving on for a fresh start at a lower price point.
Arguments for Retaining Players
