Kathakali Troupe Celebrates 50 Years of Defying Gender Norms
Imagine a play, Kathakali, where only men used to perform.
Then, a brave group of women decided to join in!
In 1975, they formed their own all-women group, breaking the rules and showing everyone that women could do it too.
They trained hard, learned the music, and acted out exciting stories.
They even traveled to different places, like America, to show their amazing talents.
These women were honored for their work and will celebrate 50 years of performances in 2025.

Tripunithura Vanitha Kathakali Sangham, an all-women Kathakali troupe, is celebrating its golden jubilee in 2025.
Founded in 1975, the troupe was a pioneer in challenging the male-dominated Kathakali tradition.
