Panjab University Victory Boosts Akali-BJP Alliance Ahead Of Punjab Polls
Ankit Vidhan won a student election at Panjab University.
He was supported by ABVP and the Shiromani Akali Dal’s student group, SOI.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s student group came second, and Congress’ student group came third.
Vidhan broke a broom after winning because it is AAP’s election symbol.
He called the result a victory for young people.
The win is important because SAD and BJP may work together again in Punjab politics.
Supporters may see the result as evidence that the two parties can cooperate.
However, a university election is much smaller than a state election.
The parties still need to solve disagreements and persuade Punjab voters that their old alliance is useful again.
ABVP’s Ankit Vidhan won the Panjab University student council presidency with SAD’s SOI backing.
AAP’s student wing finished second, while Congress’ NSUI came third.
Vidhan’s victory restored an ABVP-backed candidate to the top post after last year’s win.
He celebrated by breaking a broom, AAP’s election symbol, and called the result a “Gen-Z victory.”
The result strengthens the alliance narrative, but SAD and BJP still face organisational and seat-sharing challenges.

Meaning of the university result
Alliance Supporters
The coordinated support from ABVP and SOI produced a win against student groups linked to AAP and Congress, giving SAD and BJP a positive political talking point.
Alliance Skeptics
The result came from a university election and may not demonstrate that the same coordination can work across Punjab’s wider electorate.
Youth mandate
Alliance Supporters
Vidhan’s “Gen-Z victory” message and his defeat of AAP’s student wing can be presented as evidence of changing youth preferences.
Alliance Skeptics
The article does not establish that the university result represents the views of Punjab’s young voters as a whole.
Future alliance
Alliance Supporters
The victory gives SAD and BJP a ready-made example of how a coordinated campaign could challenge AAP and Congress.
