Maharashtra FDA Cracks Down on Food Safety Violations
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is making sure restaurants and food places keep clean and safe.
The commissioner, Tukaram Munde, said they are checking many places and stopping those that break rules.
Some famous ice‑cream shops and restaurants had to close for a while.
The agency is also listening to complaints from people and testing food in labs.
They want to keep food safe for everyone.
FDA Commissioner Tukaram Munde announced a statewide crackdown on restaurants, cloud kitchens, and food outlets violating Maharashtra's food safety and hygiene regulations.
Licences of several high‑profile establishments—including Rustom Ice Cream Parlour, Poornima Restaurant, BMC headquarters canteen, and Parsi Dairy Farm—were suspended, with Parsi Dairy Farm reopening on July 29.
The FDA intensified raids on wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers and eateries, collecting food samples for laboratory analysis under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Munde said the department also acts on public complaints and intelligence, and will take strict legal action against non‑compliant operators.
The drive is part of a broader effort to curb food adulteration and ensure compliance with state and national food safety laws.
