CAG Report Reveals Telangana's Financial Crisis Under BRS Rule
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has released a report showing that Telangana state has been in a financial crisis for the past 10 years under the previous BRS government.
The report says the state has been borrowing too much money and relying too much on selling land to make ends meet.
This has led to a lot of debt and not enough money for important things like schools and hospitals.
The state's debt has gone up a lot, and it has to spend a big part of its money just to pay back the interest on these loans.
The report also says that the state is not collecting enough taxes and is not managing its money well.
This has made the financial situation very bad, and the state is now one of the most financially stressed in the country.
Telangana's financial health deteriorated under BRS rule due to mismanagement and excessive borrowings.
The state relied heavily on land sales and WMAs, with ₹98,097 crore availed in 2023-24.
Fiscal deficit breached the 3% limit, standing at 3.42% of GSDP in 2023-24.
Public account liabilities rose by 1,987% and total combined liabilities by 405% over the decade.
Interest payments consumed more than 10% of total expenditure in 2023-24, crowding out developmental spending.
