Billava Yuva Vedike Threatens State-Wide Stir Over Alleged Police Excesses in Udupi
A group called Billava Yuva Vedike is upset because they say the police in Udupi, Karnataka, were too harsh and didn't do enough to help a woman named Akshatha Poojary.
She says the police hurt her when they went to a house to arrest someone.
The group wants the police to be punished and is planning to protest all over Karnataka if they don't get justice.
They also think the police are being unfair because they didn't act quickly on Akshatha's complaint and even arrested people who were protesting.
The group's leader, Praveen M. Poojary, said they will meet with the Home Minister to ask for help.
The incident happened on December 9 when the police went to a house to arrest a man named Ashiq, who was supposed to pay money for a car accident that happened in 2014.
Akshatha, who is related to Ashiq, says the police hurt her when they went to the house.
The group also thinks the police are targeting a resort owner who supported their protest.
Billava Yuva Vedike alleges police excesses and delay in justice for Akshatha Poojary's assault complaint.
Incident occurred on December 9 during warrant execution against Ashiq for a 2014 road accident case.
Akshatha Poojary alleges assault by police personnel during the operation.
Police registered a case only after protests and have not suspended the accused personnel.
Group threatens statewide agitation if justice is not delivered and plans to meet Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
