Jeevan Pramaan: Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners Launched
Imagine you get money from the government every month after you stop working, like a reward for your past job.
To make sure you're still around to get this money, you usually have to go in person to a bank or post office every year to prove you're alive.
This can be hard if you're old or have moved far away.
So, the government created a special digital way called 'Jeevan Pramaan' or 'Digital Life Certificate'.
It uses your fingerprint or face to prove you're alive, and the information is sent automatically to the people who give you the pension money.
This way, you don't have to stand in long lines anymore.
It uses your Aadhaar card number to make sure it's really you.
However, it's not a one-time thing forever; you might need to do it again each year, and some people, like those who get re-employed, can't use this special digital pass.
Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric-enabled digital service for pensioners of Central and State Governments.
It digitizes the process of obtaining a life certificate, eliminating the need for pensioners to appear in person.
The service was launched on November 10, 2014, to address the hardships faced by aged and infirm pensioners.
An Aadhaar number or VID is mandatory for generating a Digital Life Certificate.
The Digital Life Certificate has a specific validity period and is not valid for life; renewal may be required.
