Mumbai Ganpati Visarjan Leaves BMC With 2,854 MT Remains

Mumbai’s Ganpati festival ended after 12 days of celebrations.

People immersed more than 1.99 lakh Ganpati and Gauri idols in water bodies and artificial ponds.

Afterward, city workers collected the leftover pieces of the idols.

The BMC says it eventually collected 2,854.7 metric tonnes of material.

On Sunday morning, an earlier reported total was 2,754.85 metric tonnes.

The material is being kept at a dumping plot in Mulund.

The BMC has not yet decided how to dispose of it safely.

A court says the waste must be treated in an environmentally friendly way.

Possible methods include chemical processing, biological breakdown, or calcination.
