SC Allows Punjab Kesari Publication, Directs NGT Approach
The Supreme Court of India has allowed the Punjab Kesari Group to continue publishing its newspaper without any interruptions.
The court also told the group to go to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to address concerns raised by the Punjab State Pollution Control Board (PSPCB) about environmental violations.
The group had approached the Supreme Court because they felt the Punjab government was treating them unfairly.
The government had taken several actions against the group, including ordering the closure of their printing press in Ludhiana and a hotel in Jalandhar.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered that the printing press should be allowed to operate until the matter was decided by a lower court.
However, the lower court said it did not have the authority to decide the matter and suggested the group go to the NGT instead.
The Supreme Court allowed the Punjab Kesari Group to continue publishing its newspaper uninterrupted.
The court directed the group to approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for environmental violation concerns raised by the Punjab State Pollution Control Board (PSPCB).
The group alleged targeted and mala fide action by the AAP-led Punjab government and PPCB.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had declined interim relief and asked the group to approach the NGT.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered that the printing press be allowed to function until the matter was decided by the High Court.
