UN Names New Haiti Representative Amidst Rising Violence
The United Nations has chosen a new leader for its Haiti team, Carlos Ruiz, who is from Mexico.
He's taking over from someone from Ecuador.
Before, Ruiz worked in Colombia, helping to make sure everyone followed peace rules.
He also assisted in talks with armed groups.
This change is happening because Haiti has a lot of violence and the UN's team there is getting smaller.
The UN appointed Carlos Ruiz as special representative to Haiti.
Ruiz, a Mexican diplomat, will succeed Maria Isabel Salvador.
He previously served as special representative for Colombia.
In Colombia, he monitored the peace agreement and participated in talks.
The appointment comes as Haiti faces a worsening security situation and shrinking UN presence.
