Odisha Floods Affect Three Districts as Heavy Rain Threatens
Floodwater is still affecting parts of Odisha, especially three districts.
More than 76,000 people are dealing with the flooding there.
The latest flood spell began on August 13 and has affected many villages across the state.
Some people were moved to shelters for safety.
Officials say river levels have gone down and are below dangerous limits.
Rescue and relief workers are trying to reach villages surrounded by water.
They are also delivering cooked food and safe drinking water.
Weather officials expect heavy rain through September 2.
More rain could make the flooding worse, so people are being closely monitored and fisherfolk have been told to stay out of the sea in some coastal areas.
Flooding continued to affect 187 villages across Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts, impacting more than 76,000 people.
The second flood spell since August 13 has affected 13,50,306 people in 1,895 villages across Odisha.
Water levels in all major rivers have receded and remain below their danger marks, officials said.
Relief teams are prioritizing access to marooned villages, cooked food and safe drinking water.
The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rain from August 27 to September 2 and warned fisherfolk against entering the sea along the West Bengal and north Odisha coasts from August 30 to September 1.
