Consumer Commission Rejects Claim Over Stolen Unbooked Train Luggage

Consumer Commission Rejects Claim Over Stolen Unbooked Train Luggage

A passenger said his family’s luggage was stolen during a train trip from Kanpur to Raipur.

The bags held jewelry and clothes.

He reported the theft and asked for Rs 5 lakh in compensation from the Railways.

The Railways said the luggage had not been booked or declared as valuable.

A consumer commission agreed that the bags were unbooked and in the passenger’s care.

It said passengers must look after their personal belongings on the train.

The commission dismissed the compensation claim.

Its order referred to Section 100 of the Railways Act.
