TN CM Proposes Scrapping Governor's Address
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, wants to change the Constitution to stop the Governor from giving a speech in the Assembly at the start of each year.
This is because Governor R N Ravi has been walking out without reading the speech prepared by the State government.
The DMK party passed a resolution to include the Governor's address in the Assembly records, despite his actions.
The Governor has been rejecting the speech and insulting the Assembly, which the DMK finds unacceptable.
Some people think this is a good idea because governors should not be forced to read speeches they disagree with, and it might be time to review the Governor's role and duties.
Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin proposes a Constitutional amendment to scrap the Governor's Address in the Assembly.
Governor R N Ravi has been walking out without reading the customary address prepared by the State government.
The DMK passed a resolution not accepting the Governor's actions and including the address in the Assembly records.
Article 176 of the Constitution requires the Speaker to read out the address prepared by the State government.
The DMK seeks to protect the dignity of the Assembly and review the Governor's role and duties.
