Karnataka High Court Refuses Stay on Sugarcane Price Order
The Karnataka High Court decided not to stop the state government's order about the price for buying sugarcane.
Some sugar factories said the price is too low and they will lose money, but the court said farmers are important and need to be paid fairly.
Farmers wanted a higher price, and the government set a price in the middle.
The court will listen to both sides again later.
The government and the factories will have to find a fair way to pay the farmers.
Karnataka High Court refused to temporarily stop the state government's order on sugarcane procurement price.
Sugar mills argued that the price of Rs 3,250 per tonne causes them losses when including additional costs.
Farmers demanded Rs 3,500 per tonne, and the government set the price at Rs 3,300 per tonne with additional support.
The court questioned the mills' reluctance to pay farmers the minimum assured price.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 17 to examine the state's justification and the mills' financial concerns.
