Why BJP Is Betting On Satish Poonia For Punjab
Satish Poonia is a BJP leader who has been asked to organize the party in Punjab.
He became well known after helping the BJP manage its 2024 Haryana assembly campaign.
His team divided constituencies into smaller areas and created many WhatsApp groups.
These groups helped the party share messages and gather support.
Punjab is harder because the BJP has usually been the smaller partner in an alliance there.
The party is also dealing with disagreements among its Punjab leaders.
Poonia must bring those leaders together and build a stronger local organization.
He plans to use workers, digital communication and personal relationships to reach voters.
The BJP hopes he can help it become a bigger political force in Punjab.
Satish Poonia has been made the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Punjab in-charge ahead of the state’s assembly polls.
The BJP credits Poonia’s booth-level planning and expanded WhatsApp network with helping secure a third term in Haryana in 2024.
He faces an internal revolt in Punjab over the replacement of six district presidents shortly after their appointments.
The BJP plans to begin a major public outreach campaign on August 28 at the Rakhar Punia Jor Mela in Amritsar.
Poonia aims to strengthen the BJP’s organisation, expand its rural reach and move it beyond its role as a junior alliance partner in Punjab.
