Trump Signs Order Launching Proposed U.S. Space Academy

President Donald Trump wants to create a new school for people who will work in space.

He signed an order on August 29, 2026, to begin planning the school.

The school would support the Space Force, NASA and private space companies.

It could teach astronauts, engineers, scientists and other future space leaders.

Trump said it should be like famous military schools such as West Point.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman will lead a commission that develops the plan.

The school’s location has not been chosen, although Texas leaders want it there.

Congress would have to approve money for the project.

Supporters say the academy could help the United States compete with China and prepare for Moon and Mars missions, while critics point to existing academies and unresolved costs and logistics.
