Congress Workers Face Attempt-to-Murder Case Over Agra Home Protest

Police in Agra accused Congress protesters of writing slogans on the home of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The police registered a serious criminal case and arrested six people.

The case also names other people and unidentified protesters.

Congress says the police used charges that were too serious and inaccurate.

The protest was about allegations that elections were not conducted properly.

Congress demanded that Kumar resign.

It accused him of helping Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, which they deny.

Reports also said two election commissioners had objected to some decisions.

The Election Commission said disagreements among its members are normal and do not prove there is a split.
