Sawan Somwar Vrat 2026: Fast Rules and Allowed Drinks
Sawan is a special month in the Hindu calendar when people fast on Mondays.
In 2026, the first Monday is August 3, and the other Mondays are August 10, 17, and 24.
There are three ways to fast: the hardest one stops drinking water, the middle one lets you eat fruit, milk, and one simple meal, and the easiest one lets you have one pure vegetarian meal in the evening.
If you choose the middle fast, you can drink tea or coffee.
You can eat fruits, milk, certain grains, and dry foods, but you should not eat onions, garlic, meat, eggs, alcohol, or regular salt.
This helps people stay healthy and focused during the fast.
Sawan Somwar Vrat 2026 falls on August 3, 10, 17, and 24.
Three fast types: Nirjala (no water), Phalhaar (fruit, milk, one meal), Satvik (one pure vegetarian meal).
In the Phalhaar fast, milk, tea, and coffee are usually allowed.
Allowed foods include fruits, milk, kuttu aata, sabduana, samak rice, sendha namak, dry fruits, and vrat‑friendly vegetables.
Foods to avoid are onion, garlic, non‑vegetarian food, eggs, alcohol, tobacco, regular salt, and green leafy vegetables.
