Iran Approves Service Fees for Authorised Ships Crossing Hormuz

Iran says some ships allowed to use the Strait of Hormuz must pay fees.

The fees are for services such as navigation, safety, environmental protection, fuel and insurance.

Iran says the money can be paid in rials or another currency it chooses.

Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei says the strait is still closed.

He says it will not reopen until the United States fulfills its commitments and changes its behaviour.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the waterway could become US territory.

Iran says the United States is using economic pressure against it.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged diplomacy to resolve the disagreement.

The dispute has disrupted the movement of energy through the region.
