IRDAI Penalizes Reliance General Insurance
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has fined Reliance General Insurance Rs 1 crore for breaking several rules.
These rules are about how insurance companies work with other businesses and manage their activities.
IRDAI found that Reliance General Insurance made payments that didn't follow the rules and didn't properly check for conflicts of interest.
The company also didn't report some payments that were actually commissions but were called marketing expenses.
IRDAI gave the company a chance to explain before deciding on the penalty.
The company has to pay the fine and tell IRDAI what steps it will take to fix these issues.
IRDAI imposed a Rs 1 crore penalty on Reliance General Insurance for regulatory violations.
Violations included improper payments to intermediaries and failure to follow outsourcing regulations.
IRDAI found that some payments were misreported as marketing expenses instead of commissions.
The penalty was issued after a remote inspection and a show-cause notice.
Reliance General Insurance must pay the penalty within 45 days and submit an action report within 90 days.
