Scams Targeting Retirees in India

Scams Targeting Retirees in India

Two retired men in India were tricked out of large sums of money by scammers.

The first victim, a retired government officer from Pune, was told his Aadhaar and bank account were linked to money laundering.

He was threatened with arrest and ended up transferring Rs 1.07 crore to the scammers.

Later, another scammer pretending to be a police officer helped him report the crime.

The second victim, a 74-year-old retired engineer, was called by someone pretending to be from the telecom department.

They then connected him to a fake CBI officer who accused him of money laundering.

The engineer transferred Rs 19 lakh to the scammers.

Police are warning people about these scams and advising them to report any suspicious calls.
