Mumbai Adds Senior Citizen Coaches to 105 Non-AC Trains

The Western Railway in Mumbai is adding a special coach for senior citizens in 105 of its non-AC local trains.

This coach will be located at the sixth position in trains heading towards Churchgate station.

It will have seats for 13 passengers and space for more than 50 standing passengers.

The compartment will also have safety features like emergency ladders.

Currently, there are only 14 seats for senior citizens in the third and 12th coaches, which is not enough for the over 50,000 senior citizens who travel daily.

The Bombay High Court had ordered the Indian Railways to provide a dedicated compartment for senior citizens, following a public interest litigation that highlighted their difficulties in traveling.
