Govt considering sending FCRA Bill to joint committee for scrutiny

Govt considering sending FCRA Bill to joint committee for scrutiny

The government of India has written a new rule called the FCRA Amendment Bill, which is about how groups that help people, called NGOs, can receive money from other countries.

The government might send the bill to a special committee with lawmakers from both parts of Parliament so it can be checked more carefully.

Some political parties, like Congress, TMC and DMK, do not like the bill and want it to be cancelled.

Another party, called BJD, thinks sending the bill to a committee for more checking is a better idea.

Some people worry the bill could make it harder for churches and minority groups to get money for their schools and charities.

The government says the bill is not about religion and is only meant to track foreign money carefully and protect national security.

Some American leaders also said they were worried about the bill, but India says this is its own decision.

Soon, lawmakers may vote on whether to send the bill to the committee for more study.
