POCSO Court Gives Two Men Double Life Sentences for Assault
A court in Theni found two men guilty of abusing a 13-year-old girl.
The girl became pregnant because of the abuse.
Her parents took her to a hospital in 2023 when she was ill.
Doctors discovered the pregnancy and alerted the police.
The girl then told her parents what had happened.
The court gave both men several prison sentences, which will be served at the same time.
Each man must pay a fine, or spend three more months in prison.
The government was also ordered to give the girl compensation.
A special POCSO court in Theni sentenced Raja Perumal and Ayyasamy to double life imprisonment for assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The men were convicted of threatening the girl, taking explicit photographs and sexually assaulting her, resulting in pregnancy.
The case came to light in 2023 after a hospital examination revealed that the girl was pregnant.
The court imposed concurrent sentences of 20 years under the POCSO Act, 10 years under IPC Section 450 and one month under IPC Section 506.
Each man was fined Rs 20,000, while the Tamil Nadu government was ordered to provide the victim Rs 7 lakh in compensation.
