Carlos Alcaraz Loses $2.4M Prize Money
Carlos Alcaraz, the world's top tennis player, had an amazing year with eight trophies, including wins at the French Open and US Open.
He earned the most points in the ATP Bonus Pool, which usually means a big prize of $4.8 million.
However, he missed two important tournaments, the Canada Open and the Shanghai Open.
Because of this, the ATP (the organization that runs men's tennis) has a rule that takes away some of his prize money.
For each tournament he missed, they take away a quarter of his prize money.
Since he missed two, he loses half of his prize money, so he only gets $2.4 million instead of $4.8 million.
Another player, Jannik Sinner, missed four tournaments and won't get any prize money at all, even though he earned a lot of points.
Carlos Alcaraz earned 4,420 points in the ATP Bonus Pool, qualifying him for a $4.8 million prize.
Alcaraz missed two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments: the Canada Open and the Shanghai Open.
ATP rules reduce a player's prize money by 25% for each missed tournament, up to a maximum of three.
Due to missing two tournaments, Alcaraz's prize money was halved, resulting in a $2.4 million payout.
Jannik Sinner, ranked second in the Bonus Pool, missed four tournaments and is ineligible for any prize money.
