Ex-BRS MLA Draws Pension Despite German Citizenship
A former politician named Chennamaneni Ramesh was found by a court to be a citizen of Germany, not India.
Despite this, he is still receiving a monthly pension of up to Rs 60,000 from the Indian government.
Another politician, Adi Srinivas, has been asking the government to stop giving Ramesh this money because he is not an Indian citizen.
The government has not yet taken action to stop the pension.
Ramesh got German citizenship in the 1990s and has been living there with his family.
The court also fined him Rs 30 lakh for not telling the truth about his citizenship when he ran for office.
Chennamaneni Ramesh, a former BRS MLA, was declared a German citizen by the Telangana High Court in December 2024.
He continues to receive a pension of up to Rs 60,000 per month from the Telangana assembly.
Congress MLA Adi Srinivas has argued that Ramesh, as a German citizen, is not entitled to government benefits and has appealed to stop his pension.
The assembly secretary has not taken action to stop the pension, citing the lack of explicit instructions in the court order.
Ramesh secured German citizenship in the 1990s through naturalization and has been living in Germany with his family.
