Adani to Redevelop Mumbai Airport Terminal 1B From January 2027
Mumbai Airport plans to rebuild part of its older Terminal 1.
The work is expected to start in January 2027, beginning with the North Section of Terminal 1B.
The airport operator says the building has safety concerns and needs repairs.
It also says a fire at Terminal 1 in April highlighted the risks.
About 5 million passengers a year may be affected during the first phase.
Adani says the rest of the airport’s passenger traffic will keep operating.
Airlines can choose to move some services temporarily to Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Adani says this would not be a permanent move.
After the work, Terminal 1 is expected to handle 20 million passengers a year instead of 15 million.
Phased redevelopment of Terminal 1B’s North Section is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with demolition planned in the first phase.
About 5 million passengers annually—roughly 9% of Mumbai Airport’s approximately 55 million passengers—are expected to be temporarily affected.
Adani says the affected section represents about one-third of Terminal 1’s capacity, while 91% of airport passenger traffic will remain unaffected.
Airlines may temporarily move affected operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport; Adani says the transition is optional and not permanent.
