Madras High Court Upholds Conviction in Dowry Harassment Case
A man and his mother were found guilty of making his wife and child so miserable with demands for money that they killed themselves.
The Madras High Court agreed with the lower court, which had already sent them to prison for 10 years.
The wife had complained to the police before, but the harassment continued.
The judge looked at all the evidence, and since the evidence showed that the family was constantly asking for money, they decided that the man and his mother were guilty.
Sadly, the husband's father died during the process.
The Madras High Court upheld the conviction of Anbarrasu and his mother, Kasthuri.
The case involved the suicide of Anbarrasu's wife and child due to dowry harassment.
The trial court had previously sentenced the man and his parents to 10 years imprisonment in 2016.
The court found that the evidence of family members regarding dowry demands was clear.
Anbarrasu's father died during the appeal, leading to the abatement of charges against him.
