India's Equity Market Could Double to $10 Trillion in 4-5 Years
Raamdeo Agrawal, a big boss at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, thinks India's stock market, which is worth $5 trillion now, could become twice as big in just 4-5 years.
He believes this will happen because India's economy is growing, the rules are being followed well, and more people are putting their money into the stock market.
He also says that even though people in India don't earn a lot of money individually, the stock market is still doing well.
He compares old wealth, like land and gold, to new wealth, which is mostly paper and digital money.
He thinks this new way of creating wealth will make India much richer in the future, with the stock market possibly reaching $25 trillion in 17 years.
He also says that even though there might be some problems along the way, like Covid or other troubles, India's economy will keep growing and getting stronger.
India's equity market could double to $10 trillion in 4-5 years, driven by economic growth and financial participation.
Raamdeo Agrawal emphasizes that markets are self-correcting and anchored to corporate earnings.
The Buffett Ratio (market cap to GDP) in India has risen from 0.5 in 2005 to 1.3 in 2025.
Agrawal projects India's GDP to reach $16 trillion by 2040-42, with market capitalization potentially hitting $20-25 trillion.
He highlights the shift from physical wealth to paper and digital wealth, driving economic growth and corporate profitability.
