UN Refugee Agency to Reduce Budget, Cut Jobs Amid Crises
The UN Refugee Agency, which helps refugees, is cutting its budget by about a fifth.
This means they will spend less money in 2026 compared to the previous year.
The agency says it's because of money problems.
They also plan to close an office in Southern Africa and will have to let nearly 4,000 people go.
Even with these cuts, the number of people who need help is expected to grow because of wars and other crises.
This may make it harder for the agency to help everyone who needs it, including those fleeing conflicts in places like Sudan.
The UN Refugee Agency plans to reduce its budget by nearly a fifth.
The new budget for 2026 will be $8.5 billion.
The reduction is due to financial constraints.
The agency will close its Southern Africa bureau and cut nearly 4,000 jobs.
The number of forcibly displaced and stateless people is expected to reach a new global record.
