Security Tightened in Tripura Amid Armed Group Movement
In 2025, security was increased along the border between India and Bangladesh in the state of Tripura.
This happened because there were reports that members of two armed groups from Bangladesh, called PCJSS and UPDF, were moving around.
The Indian government put a night curfew in place to keep people safe.
They also said that no one should carry weapons during this time.
Tripura shares a long border with Bangladesh, which makes it easy for people to cross over.
In the past, there have been fights between different groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, and some people have crossed into India for safety.
The Indian Chakma leaders want the Bangladesh government to follow a peace agreement made in 1997 to protect the tribal people in the hill region.
Security tightened in Tripura's Gomati district due to reports of PCJSS and UPDF militants' movement.
Night curfew imposed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until February 28 in certain border areas.
Curfew prohibits carrying weapons, except for security personnel on duty.
Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh, making it vulnerable to cross-border crimes.
13 PCJSS members, including 2 women, were detained in Tripura in June 2024 after crossing the border for medical treatment.
