Mamata Banerjee Joins NEET Protest After Court Bars Rally
Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the Trinamool Congress, joined a protest in Kolkata on Saturday.
The protest was organized by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and other party wings to support students who are upset about a leaked NEET exam paper.
The Calcutta High Court had earlier refused permission for the rally, saying that there needs to be a balance between the right to protest and maintaining public order.
During the protest, police detained some leaders, including an MLA and a student leader.
Mamata Banerjee went to the protest site and had a heated exchange with the police.
She criticized the government and the police for their actions, saying that the protest was peaceful and that the detentions were unjust.
The court also noted that the protest was politically motivated and that the police had faced difficulties maintaining order during similar protests.
