College Racing Team Develops Hydrogen-Fuelled ATV, Wins Awards
A college team in India built a special car called an ATV that runs partly on hydrogen, a cleaner fuel.
They competed in a race and did very well, even though they were new to using hydrogen.
The team started the project a year ago and used some parts from old electric cars to save money.
The car uses a mix of hydrogen and CNG because hydrogen is expensive to make.
The team plans to improve the car to use more hydrogen.
They hope to find lighter materials and better funding to make the car even better.
Hydrogen only produces water as waste, making it good for the environment.
Herakles Racing, a team from College of Engineering Trivandrum, developed a hydrogen-fuelled ATV.
The team competed in the SAEIndia HBaja 2025 competition, finishing second overall.
They won the best debutant award and excelled in validation, efficiency, and virtual dynamics.
The ATV currently uses a combination of hydrogen and CNG due to high hydrogen production costs.
The team aims to increase hydrogen use and find lighter materials to improve performance.
