Prasad's 1947 Call: Radiant Bharat of Happy Homes, Loving Faces
Long ago, on August 15, 1947, a wise leader named Dr. Rajendra Prasad gave a big speech in India.
That was the day India became free.
He told people that being free was not the end of the work.
Everyone must keep working hard and helping each other.
He dreamed of a beautiful country called Bharat where no one is poor or sick.
He wanted leaders and government workers to serve the people, not rule over them.
He also wanted soldiers and sailors to protect the country and help build it.
He asked everyone to finish writing the new constitution of India.
The constitution would make sure people are free and safe.
Today, many years later, people still remember his wise words.
On August 15, 79 years ago, Dr. Rajendra Prasad delivered a speech urging Indians to take a new pledge of constructive work and sacrifice.
He called for a nation free of poverty, squalor, ignorance, ill-health, untouchability, and exploitation of man by man.
He envisioned religion as a cementing force that binds people together rather than dividing them.
He said rulers and public servants must become servants of the people, while the armed forces must defend freedom and help build a new life.
He stressed completing the constitution so the people's will can be expressed and enforced for the common good.
