Justice Department Appeals Dismissal of Harvard Civil Rights Suit

Justice Department Appeals Dismissal of Harvard Civil Rights Suit

The United States government sued Harvard University over how it handled alleged antisemitism on campus.

The government says Harvard did not do enough to protect Jewish and Israeli students.

A judge dismissed the lawsuit on August 13.

He said the government had not provided enough evidence that Harvard broke a civil rights law.

The Justice Department now wants a higher court to review that decision.

Harvard has not agreed to settle the lawsuit.

The university has also won other court cases against efforts to restrict its research funding and international student enrollment.

The government is appealing one of those other rulings too.
