Sheikh Hasina Planned Political Retirement Before Ouster
Sheikh Hasina, who was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was removed from power in August 2024 after many people protested and there was violence.
Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, said she had already planned to retire from politics because of her age.
She is now in India for safety.
There were reports that she might have told security forces to use strong measures, but her son says those reports are not accurate.
He also said that the political party she leads, called the Awami League, will continue without her.
Many people were hurt or killed during the protests, and the United Nations said about 1,400 people died.
India is not going to send Hasina back to Bangladesh because there is no proof against her, according to her son.
Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was ousted in August 2024 following mass protests and a violent crackdown.
Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, stated that Hasina had planned to retire from politics due to her age.
Hasina is currently in India under government protection and wants to return to Bangladesh to retire.
Joy denied allegations that Hasina authorized lethal force against peaceful protesters, stating the audio recordings were taken out of context.
The Awami League, the political party led by Hasina, will continue to exist without her leadership.
