RBI Warns of Rising Inflation Risks

RBI Warns of Rising Inflation Risks

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has warned that inflation in India is becoming more uncertain.

The RBI's governor, Sanjay Malhotra, said that the conflict in the Middle East and the uncertain monsoon are the biggest risks to inflation this year.

The RBI has already increased its inflation forecast for the year to 5.1%.

Inflation is expected to rise in the second half of the year.

Retail inflation has been increasing since January and reached 4.38% in June, which is above the RBI's target of 4%.

The conflict in the Middle East could disrupt oil supplies and keep energy prices high.

India imports most of its oil, so higher oil prices increase the cost of fuel, transportation, and goods.

The monsoon is also a concern because a weak monsoon can reduce food supplies and push up food prices.

Food prices are already under pressure, with food inflation at 5.32%.

If the monsoon is weaker than expected and oil prices stay high, these factors could keep pushing inflation up.
