Uttar Pradesh Pushes Food Processing to Boost Jobs, Incomes
Uttar Pradesh grows many fruits, vegetables and other farm products.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said more of these products should be processed near where they are grown.
Processing can turn farm products into packaged and branded foods.
This could reduce the amount of food that spoils.
It could also help farmers receive better prices.
The sector may create jobs for young people, women entrepreneurs and self-help groups.
Officials said businesses can also work in packaging, transport, marketing and exports.
They encouraged entrepreneurs to use government support and improve quality so the products can compete in other countries.

He said local processing, packaging and branding could create jobs, support entrepreneurship and increase farmers’ incomes.
Maurya warned that insufficient processing and storage cause agricultural produce to spoil after reaching mandis.
Officials highlighted opportunities in packaging, marketing, transportation, exports, cold chains and modern processing units.
Additional Chief Secretary B.L. Meena urged entrepreneurs to use government schemes and incentives to connect local products with national and international markets.
