ANI Editor Faces Court Case Over Alleged False News
An ex-government official named Amitabh Thakur is taking a news editor to court.
He claims the editor's news agency, ANI, has been publishing false news and wrongly attributing it to the Election Commission of India (ECI), a government body that runs elections.
Thakur says ANI has reported things as coming from the ECI that were never officially stated.
He did not go to the police, instead filing a complaint directly with the court because he was worried the police might be influenced.
The court has agreed to hear the case.
The next hearing is scheduled for September 26.
A Lucknow court registered a complaint against ANI's Editor, Smita Prakash.
The complaint was filed by former IAS officer Amitabh Thakur.
Thakur alleges ANI published false news attributed to the ECI.
The court will hear Thakur's statement on September 26, 2025.
Thakur chose to directly approach the court instead of the police.
