North Korea Party Revisions Expand Kim Jong Un’s Control
North Korea changed the rules of its ruling Workers’ Party.
The new rules give Kim Jong Un more direct power over important party decisions.
He can call and lead meetings of senior party groups.
He can also appoint or remove important officials and discipline party members.
Smaller groups can make major decisions during wartime without gathering the entire Central Committee.
The rules require the Central Committee to meet at least every six months.
They put more attention on Kim Jong Un and less on the achievements of earlier leaders.
A South Korean security institute said the changes make North Korea’s government and military control more centralised.
